Service Ministries

Food Pantry

Ever passed a person on the street who looks like they could use a decent meal? The Albany Park Food Pantry provides monthly meals for families and individuals in need. What you can do:

  • Donate food to the food pantry--staples like pasta, canned meat and veggies. Boxes are located at the narthex--when you enter the church.
  • Walk for Hunger Relief--every June. Your feet make a difference!

Eucharistic Ministers

Train to visit shut-in members in their homes, bringing the sacrament of the Lord's table from the midst of the assembly.

Equal exchange-Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project

"Equal Exchange is like drinking a cup of justice--and justice can taste outstanding." This project helps small coffee farmers receive a fair wage for their coffee, avoiding the large coffee brokers. Purchase your coffee for home brewing after worship at the coffee hour.

Lutheran Advocacy Network

Want to see big changes happen? Let your voice be heard!

Book Club

This group meets the last Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. to discuss a book chosen by the group.

The book we will be discussing for Aug. 29 is The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. The book club is now meeting at 7:30 in the church study on the last Tuesday of the month.

A computer blog has been created to keep book club members and all those interested up to date on goings on, follow ups, and interesting tid bits related to our books and discussions. The address for the blog is: http://bookclubcheck.blogspot.com .

If you would like to receive an automatic email every time a new blog entry is made, go to the blog and add your email to using a discussion link, email Jen Haertling at jenhaertling@sbcglobal.net .

Adult Evening Bible Study - JOB

Study of Job

This study will begin on Sept. 20 and end on Dec.13th. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, except for Dec. in which we will meet the 1st and 2nd Wednesday) from 7:30 - 9:00 at the church.

* Book of Job provides lessons for people suffering a crisis of faith after last year's Indian Ocean tsunami and our own Katrina. There was never a time when the book of Job was not relevant, but it is especially relevant today. This not because the book of Job has changed, but because we have. We may be more ready to listen now... less certain of our own answers. So, when Job asks, "Why?" - we, too, strain to hear the answers. And if answers are not forthcoming, then we like Job, at least need to know how to live without them. "
*Carol M.Bechtel, Kerygma Bible Studies
